President's Message
December, 2011

HAPPY Chanukah! And Happy New Year (the secular one!) This is a wonderful time of year.  The changing colors on the trees, the crisp fresh air in the morning, the beautiful sunsets, and the glistening white blanket of fresh snow – oops that was from my time up North, but you get the idea.  It is a wonderful time to appreciate the world around us, to be with dear friends and family, to be a part of a caring community.

As always, there is a lot going on at Ner Tamid, and lots of opportunities for you to take part in the activities that are planned.  If there is something that you would like to do as part of Ner Tamid, please take a moment and let us know what that is.  The Board is always looking for ideas for new activities that would be of interest.   And we do listen! We began offering Shabbat Services every Saturday Morning, because interest was expressed and I am very happy to say that we have had a Minion every Saturday, since we started, after the High Holy Days!

We held our garage sale on Friday, Nov. 11th, (Veterans Day) at Cantor Patti’s.  Thanks to all that donated items for the sale and to all that helped with the sale, Kathy, Brittni, Elayne, Rose, Cantor Patti and Ray.  We earned almost $300!

Thank you to everyone that brought food items, and winter coats and jackets as part of our community service efforts to help the hungry and homeless.  Those items have been delivered to the Dallas Jewish Family Service.  This is an ongoing effort, so please continue to bring staple items and coats/blankets to any Ner Tamid activity.

Another activity that is really easy, and doesn’t cost anything, is to save the manufacture coupons that you don’t use, like the ones that come in the Sunday paper.  Again bring them to any Ner Tamid activity, and through the efforts of Marilyn Lepley, they are sent to our Service Men and Women stationed overseas.  They use them at the Commissaries and PX, and they can use them up to 6 months after they expire.

And here is one option that helps Ner Tamid.  Ner Tamid is a member of the Tom Thumb Good Neighbor Reward Program and we receive cash back on your purchases, as long as you have designated Ner Tamid as a recipient on your Good Neighbor Reward Card.  Our number is 2740.  Please make sure that we are listed (and you can list more than one recipient).  Ner Tamid annually receives over $125.  It could be more, if you participate and shop at Tom Thumb.

As we approach the end of the year, please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to Ner Tamid.  It will help us build for the future, and it can help you with your 2011 taxes! That is a win-win for everyone.

And don’t forget Friday Night Services, every Friday, at 7:30 p.m., Shabbat Morning Service at 10:00 a.m. and Torah Study every Saturday morning, at 11:00 a.m.

Come experience the fun and warmth of Shabbat at Ner Tamid

 Shalom,

Randy
