Ner Tamid has been conducting a Saturday
morning Torah Study for over a year and a half. It started when one of our
congregants said to our Spiritual Leader, Cantor Patti Turner, “I would rather
talk about the Torah portion than listen to a sermon about it.” We began with
just five and now have a regular attendance of 12 to 15 and sometimes as many as
25. The study group is open to everyone who wants to learn more about the Torah.
We read the weekly Parasha (in English), and discuss it as we go. Some weeks we
only get to read a couple of words and then the conversation takes off! Cantor
Patti offers questions and suggestions as we go. We have a number of different
translations and so we often end up working on the meaning of a single word.
One of our regular Torah Study members fell and broke her shoulder last fall, and spent some time at Signature Pointe on the Lake for rehabilitation. She didn’t want to miss out on Torah Study, so we contacted Signature Pointe to see if they had a room we could use. They did, and we moved our Study group. When our member finished her rehab, Signature Pointe invited us to continue meeting there, since some of the residents had joined our group.
We are currently meeting every Saturday morning at Canter Patti's home at 10:00am and often go for an hour and half, or more.
